Fall Cook-Off

The 3rd Annual BBQ Cook-Off was once again a huge success. With a record 18 teams and 21 sponsors, the event continues to grow each year! We had more hungry guests than we could count and were once again privileged with visitors from the State Capital and DOT Headquarters. Among those were Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and ARDOT Director Scott Bennett. Except for a sprinkle or two, the weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed the smoke-filled air, eating and relaxing with friends and colleagues.

As the teams sharpen their skills, no one had a tougher job this year than the judges. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners were recognized in Chicken, Ribs and Pork and the Grand Champion received the sought-after BBQ Belt. Ultimately, Crow Paving took home the championship belt!

For the second year, AAPA donated to Ovarian Cancer Research in honor of Taryn Claassen, daughter of Brad and Sherri Fryar of Contractor’s Specialty. We also want to recognize and thank Contractor’s Specialty for graciously hosting the event. Their site provided the much-needed space for the growing crowd.

A special thanks goes out to all of our sponsors and to the ARDOT staff who served as our judges.
