SENATORS AIM TO PRODUCE FIVE-YEAR HIGHWAY BILL BEFORE AUGUST RECESS – WASHINGTON – The first version of what could become the country’s next major highway policy bill will be unveiled in the Senate prior to Congress’ recess in August, surface transportation policymakers announced July 10. ARKANSAS HIGHWAY COMMISSION RELEASES STATEMENT REGARDING THE PROPOSED CASINO GAMBLING AMENDMENT – LITTLE ROCK (8-29) – A proposed Constitutional amendment regarding casino gambling in Arkansas is currently in the process of obtaining certification that would allow it to appear on the ballot in the November 2018 general election. AHTD WINS 7TH PERPETUAL PAVEMENT AWARD – Congratulations to the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department for winning their 7th Perpetual Pavement Award for Route 167, Section 19 (MM 16.8 to 18.8) in Sharp County! The Perpetual Pavement Award program administered by the Asphalt Pavement Alliance accepts award nominations for projects which are at least 35 years old, have not experience a structural failure, received no more than four inches of newly added material over the previous 35 years, and have not been resurfaced more frequently than once every 13 years. The nomination was evaluated and selected for an award by the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University.
